- Take the case off during long fast-charge sessions if the phone gets noticeably warm: thick cases trap exactly the heat AVS is supposed to move out.
- Fast charging matters most in the 0–50% window. Above 80% the phone tapers hard no matter what charger you own; there is nothing to gain by fighting it.
- Avoid charging on soft surfaces (bed, couch) that block passive cooling.
- Store or charge somewhere between roughly 15–25°C when you can. A phone charging in a car dash mount in summer sun is the worst common case.
None of this requires babying the battery. The 20–80% rules people quote are guidelines, not law; the phone manages its own protection better than any iPhone 17 charging habit you can keep.

- Background heat. Navigation, gaming, or a sunlit dashboard while charging triggers thermal throttling that looks like a charging fault. Let the phone idle for ten minutes and compare.
- Restart. A stuck charging negotiation after a buggy accessory session is fixed by a reboot more often than people expect.
Intermittent charging (connects, drops, reconnects)
Usually physical, usually cheap to fix:
- Clean the USB-C port with a wooden or plastic pick (not metal). Pocket lint builds a nest around the connector pins and makes contact marginal.
- Check the cable seats firmly with no wobble. Wobble means worn connector retention, so replace the cable.
